To celebrate Mother’s Day, which is this Sunday, we asked you to send in your favourite picture of you and your mom, when it was, and why it means so much to you.
We were sent some great snaps, with some lovely stories too, and we wanted to share those stories from our own families with our SanMar Canada family.
So, to all the moms who are working with us, Happy Mother’s Day!

“Here is a picture of my mom (Marina) and I from this past December, 2021. It was her 60th birthday jubilee on New Year’s Eve. My parents live in Israel and this photo is my favorite because despite Covid restrictions and much political uncertainty, I was able to make it to Israel for her birthday and the New Years’ celebrations.”

“This is me and my mamma! This photo was taken in Poland in the mid 80’s. She thought me how to be strong and not let the little things get me down. I might be still working on the second part.”

“This is the day I said yes to my wedding dress, and my mom drove 8.5 hours so she could be there for it. A little story behind the photo - my mom actually got food poisoning the night before, was up all night and was still sick the day of, but when I told her it was okay to stay back and that I wouldn’t get my dress without her, she said ‘not a chance, I wouldn’t miss it for the world’. The poor woman had Pepto Bismol in her bag and was chugging it every 15 minutes in the store! She was such a trooper and stayed through the whole 90-minute session, which I am so thankful for because I ended up finding my dream wedding dress that day. I am so thankful to my mom – she is my best friend, my biggest cheerleader and the most selfless and loving human being I know.”

“This picture is my favourite because this was my first Mother’s Day as a mom last year. I had whole range of emotions. There’s no better feeling in the world than holding my little baby in my arms.”

“This photo was taken at the Manila airport in 2018, as I was flying back to Canada. It’s very special to me because this is the last time I got to spend time with her and see her in person. Six months later she passed away from cancer. It has been three years since she left, but I still miss her every day. I love her dearly. Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing moms.”

“This photo was taken in Tbilisi, Georgia (2011) before I left to pursue my degree. Although it was a short trip, we really enjoyed the hospitality, food, and atmosphere of the city.”

“This picture was taken outside Croke Park in Dublin on All-Ireland Football Final Day in 2019. It’s my favourite picture of us because it was the last match I was at with my mom before moving to Canada. As a sport crazy family/country, All-Ireland Day is a special day for everyone, and this picture reminds me of a special day at home.”

“Here's one I keep within eyesight of my desk. She's about my age here and we're at the beach on Cape Cod, where we'd spend time every summer when I was little. She passed away when I was 21, and Mother's Day is still rough, but I try to keep her spirit alive with my memories of her and by how I think about her when I look at photos like this. She was such a loving, fun, and funny person and I miss her every day.”

“This picture was from Mother’s Day in 2021, and I was so lucky to have spent it with my mom after missing 2022 due to Covid-19. Looking forward to our brunch on the 8th this year.”

“This is a picture of me and my mom on her very first time travelling out of North America. It was for a family wedding in Cuba.”

“This was taken about 20 years ago at my cousin's wedding, since then she has fought cancer and survived, continued to be a pillar of strength for our whole family and my best friend in the whole wide world. There's not enough space for me to write all the fantastic things about my mom, I just hope I'm as tough as she is when I'm 75 (she'd kill me if she knew I said how old she is now).”

"My mom and I used to fight when I was growing up, so glad we grew out of that and are now best friends."
