Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the world’s number one killer with 18.6 million people dying from it every year. It has many causes including smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity.
For the 520 million people living with this disease, the global pandemic of the last year and a half has been very tough as they have been more at risk of developing severe forms of the virus.
Many have been very concerned and have not attended routine and emergency appointments, and have become isolated from friends and family.
World Heart Day is a global campaign during people around the world participate in activities to take charge of their heart health and that of others. The World Heart Federation unites people from all countries and backgrounds in the fight against CVD.
It aims to drive action to educate people that by controlling risk factors such as tobacco use, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity, at least 80% of premature deaths from heart disease and stroke could be avoided.
This World Heart Day, we remember those who have died as a result of CVD, and we hope to become more aware of the importance of our and our loved one’s health.
