A Joint Health and Safety Committee is a committee made up of worker and employer representatives working together to identify and resolve health and safety concerns in the workplace.
The committee is responsible for identifying and recommending solutions to these concerns. Individual workers have a responsibility to report concerns to their supervisor or employer. However, if the concern is not corrected, a committee member should be contacted.
The Committee’s role in the workplace includes:
- to promote safe work practices
- to assist in creating a safe and healthy workplace
- to recommend actions which will improve the effectiveness of the occupational health and safety program and
- to promote compliance with WorksafeBC Occupational Health and Safety Regulation/ The Ontario Ministry of Labour Health and Safety regulations
