There’s something special about delicate pink petals floating down from above and carpeting the ground below your feet. And that’s exactly what we experience across the country come spring. The stunning cherry blossom tree is probably one of the most photogenic, and Canada is lucky enough to boast trees in cities right across Canada.
From the first blooms of the season, here are some of the blossom hot spots:
Vancouver:
There are approximately 43,000 cherry blossom trees in Metro Vancouver. On average, each tree blossoms for about 2 weeks long. This year’s peak bloom can take place anywhere between March 19 to April 21. However, experts this year puts it closer to April 3rd.
The prime spots to find these flowers are Queen Elizabeth Park, Stanley Park, Burrard Skytrain Station, and various neighborhoods around the city. You can also check out the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival which will run from March 29 to April 25, 2024.
Calgary:
Calgary is home to various cherry blossom varieties, with some blooming as early as the start of April. The best places to view cherry blossoms are in the downtown core and various parks throughout the city, with the most popular area being Central Memorial Park.
This park is located in the Beltline district and is known for its stunning display of cherry trees. Other great places to view cherry blossoms include Prince’s Island Park, Confederation Park, and the Bow River pathway.
Toronto:
Toronto’s cherry blossoms usually bloom in April, with the peak of the blooming season lasting from mid-April to early May. This city is a great place to view cherry blossoms, with one of the best locations being High Park.
Many people also go to Allan Gardens and Trinity Bellwoods Park to glimpse the cherry blossoms in their full glory. The City of Toronto even has its own dedicated ‘Cherry Blossoms’ web page, with information on the best viewing locations, etiquette surrounding cherry trees, and BloomCam, a camera that captures and streams the beautiful trees in real time.
Montreal:
Montreal is also home to a stunning display of cherry blossoms. In late April and early May, the cherry blossoms begin to bloom, creating a stunning contrast with Montreal’s old-world architecture.
You can find cherry blossom trees in many of the city’s parks, such as the Montreal Botanical Garden, Parc La Fontaine, Parc Jeanne-Mance, and Parc Lafontaine. Each park offers a unique experience, with different trees and varieties of cherry blossoms. Outside the parks, you can find cherry blossoms in the bohemian Plateau district, on the McGill University campus, and along the Lachine Canal.

March 8, 2024 at 8:08 amThe High Park cherry blossoms are spectacular every year. The park itself is one of my favourite places in the city mainly because it has the best, and largest, dog park in the city, which is right by where the Cherry Trees are. So if you go this year don’t forget to take your puppy with you!
