World’s oldest runestone found in Norway could contain earliest example of runic writing.
Some fun and interesting science news from last week!
Archaeologists in Norway have found the “world’s oldest runestone” which contains writing that could be the earliest ever discovered!
“This find will give us a lot of knowledge about the use of runes in the early Iron Age. This may be one of the first attempts to use runes in Norway and Scandinavia on stone,” said Kristel Zilmer, a professor at University of Oslo.

The runestone was originally discovered in 2021, but they claimed last week that the inscriptions are up to 2,000 years old and date back to the earliest days of the history of runic writing.
Cool!
I’m guessing it says “Grog was here.”
What do you think it could read?
