All travelers coming into Canada by air, rail, road or sea must provide their travel information through ArriveCAN, a free, digital platform operated by the Government of Canada.
It allows those entering the country provide mandatory travel information, including Covid-19 proof of vaccination and quarantine details, and you can download it for Android or iOS.
Only people with accessibility needs, asylum seekers, and refugees are exempt from using ArriveCAN.
Here’s the important part. If you don’t submit your information through ArriveCAN, you may be denied:
- boarding if arriving by air or by cruise ship
- entry into Canada if crossing at a land, rail or marine border crossing
Canadian citizens, permanent residents, persons registered under the Indian Act and foreign nationals eligible to enter Canada under another entry exemption will not be denied boarding or entry, but you:
- won’t be eligible for the fully vaccinated traveller exemption, and may be required to quarantine
- may face additional delays at the border for public health questioning
- may be subject to fines or enforcement action
All information must be submitted 72 hours before your arrival to Canada, and all the app asks for is your contact info, vaccination info and travel details.
So, if you’re planning to travel abroad, remember to complete the ArriveCAN so you can travel home.
