Tips To Fight Allergy Season

It happens us all. The cold winter months pass and we get excited for the return of the spring, but once the weather improves, you can’t leave the house without an industrial amount of tissues.

For millions of people across the country and the world, allergy season is in full swing, and while pollen levels outside are out of your control, you can take steps to beat allergy season inside your home.

Here’s the advice from the Government of Canada:

  • Clean or replace A/C filters once a month so that it’s not clogged up with allergens.
  • Wash all fabric items using the hottest setting on your machine to eliminate allergens.
  • Use an air purifier to filter airborne irritants out of your home.
  • High efficiency air conditioners help pull out dust and pet hair that could be causing allergies.
  • Upgrade your windows and doors to stop older frames allowing allergens into your home.

Allergies affect people differently, but common symptoms include the following:

  • Coughing
  • Sneezing
  • Itchy eyes
  • Congestion (stuffy nose)
  • Runny nose
  • Scratchy throat
  • Rashes
  • Hives
  • Breathing problems such as wheezing
  • Asthma attacks

Seasonal allergies can be frustrating when you’re enjoying the outdoors, but don’t let that stop you.

Medications can ease your allergies, but check with your doctor before you start taking any medicines.

If your allergy symptoms don’t improve, it’s time to visit your healthcare provider.
