The typical talking point before the holidays is, when is the right time to put up your Christmas tree?
Some think after Thanksgiving, many think when it turns December 1st, while others believe there’s enough time a week out from Christmas Day.
On the flip side, the same happens after the big day. Do we wait until the New Year to take it down? Do we wait until all the needles from the tree fall off?
With decorations on their way to the attic, and the tree on its way out the front door, here are a few sustainable ways you can reuse your Christmas tree long after the season is over:
- Firewood – most evergreens are heavy sap trees and work well as firewood.
- Wildlife – hang bird feeders watch your tree evolve into a bird sanctuary.
- Fish feeder – when trees are left in water, they become a thriving reserve for fish.
- Fresheners – if the needles on your tree are still green, store them in paper bags or sachets.
- Coasters – cut the trunk into one-inch wood coasters and varnish them before use.
