Blood – We all have it, we all need it, now is your chance to make a difference!

WE ARE HAVING A BLOOD DRIVE!

Are you Eligible?

We know that you are excited, but unfortunately not everyone is able to donate blood. Please check out the ELIGIBILITY QUIZ www.blood.ca/en/blood/eligibility-quiz  to make sure that it is safe for you to donate.

The Important Details!

  • You must be older than 17 to donate.
  • There is a weight and height requirement for 17 to 23 years old. Please see attached Height-Weight guidelines. (please include this from folder)
  • Bring Identification! It’s a MUST. – (i.e drivers license, new health card or blood donor card if they are already a donor)
  • No tattoos or body piercings in the last 3 months.
  • EAT and DRINK water the day before the donation and most especially on the day of the donation. Lots of water. This is the secret to donating!
  • You cannot have been to the dentist in the last 72 hours.
  • If you have travelled outside of Canada please call 1-888-2Donate and ask a nurse if your travelled country is eligible. You can also see the entire list of countries here: https://www.blood.ca/en/blood/travel

Why Should I donate?

  • 1 in 2 Canadians are eligible to donate, but only 1 in 60 will do it. – Even though half of the Canadian population is eligible to donate, only four per cent of people ever do. That small group provides blood for everyone – and yet it’s in us all to give
  • The demand for blood never stops, cancer patients, accident victims, and people with blood disorders rely on blood transfusions every day, even during the busy fall season.  Did you know that a Leukemia patient can need up to 8 units of blood per week?
  • New donors are critical to meeting Canada’s future blood needs.
  • They have a particular need for O negative blood! – O negative blood is the universal donor and the one that is used in cases of emergency!
