Dear SanMar Canada Family,
On December 24th 2007, Kayla Prasad (daughter of our very own Tammie Cox, Vancouver,) was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, the exact cancer Terry Fox lost his leg to.
It was in her knee and had been in discomfort for nearly a year before the diagnosis. The doctors brought the family in right away to give the news that with only a 15% chance of survival, she may not make it to the following Christmas.
In April of 2008, after 3 rounds of chemo therapy, she had to have her left leg removed at the hip. After 3 more rounds of chemo, she is alive, well and with us today thanks to the BC Cancer Agency, but also thanks to Terry Fox for what he did to raise awareness and funding for cancer research.
Kayla had to work very hard swimming and wheeling around to get her strength back but, has since participated in The Terry Fox Run 5 times!
She says “I learned that I have strength in myself that I didn’t know was there before; both mentally and physically.”
This year, on September 17th, Kayla will once again push herself by getting out of her wheel chair and doing The Terry Fox Run on crutches in an effort to raise more than $500!
“I continue to do the run [year after year] because of how amazing the Terry Fox Organization is. They are one of the best for the amount of money that actually goes towards cancer research, rather than the organization itself,” Kayla said. “It is a way for me to give back to the cancer community that saved my life. And I truly believe, if not for Terry himself I would not be here today.”
Kayla, back to work full-time, is coming up on her 1 year wedding anniversary and is looking forward to starting a family of her own Terry Fox Runners.
Sincerely,
The SanMar Canada Opportuni-Tee Team!
SanMar Canada is matching all the money we raise for the Terry Fox Run.
