Tips to stay healthy and happy this winter

Shorter days, lack of sunlight, rain/snow, and all sorts of other things can contribute to a less-than-steller winter. Seasonal affective disorder can affect all of us in one way or another, so it’s important to take care of your mind and body! Especially during the glum and down days of winter.

Here are some ways to help stay healthy this winter:

  1. Get some sunlight. Anytime you can. Studies show that even getting sunlight when its overcast can be good for overall mood and health. Vitamin D can also help!
  2. Engage your senses. Cook something delicious and let it take over your house. Candles and incense are also great when paired with a happy playlist or podcast.
  3. Give back. Doing things for others will also be a great mood booster. Declutter your house with donations to charity or local-based recycle groups (like Facebook Buy Nothing).
  4. Be social. Host a games night with some friends, try out some trivia, attend a free workshop, or Skype with some family over dinner.
  5. Stay active and eat smart(ish). Exercise = mood boost, we all know it. Pair exercise with some cheeky indulgences like hot chocolate, popcorn, or other semi-healthy snacks. (Stay away from fast food, even after a good workout)
