Quebec’s Quickest – Alain St Cyr

You will know Alain St-Cyr as our Regional Sales Manager in Québec, but what you might not know is that he is keen athlete, and not only that, but that he’s the fastest man in Québec in the 55-60 category.

Alain claimed the title as the province’s fastest master on March 5^th when he ran the 60-metre sprint in an incredible 8.88 seconds. He tore up the track in Sherbrooke while competing against other athletes in his age group, as well as a number of younger sprinters from different universities around Québec.

The record has been a long time coming for Alain, after kickstarting his track and field career at the age of 14, and continuing to race for almost twenty years. After two decades of training and competing, Alain put athletics on hold for a few years so he could focus on work and take care of his family.

After his time away from the sport, Alain says it was a group of runners his age that inspired him to get back into the swing of things, and get his fitness back up to where it once was.

“Four years ago, I saw some masters running and that gave me the motivation to start to get in shape and train again. I practice five times a week, three are dedicated to weightlifting, while the other two are for the track with other sprinters of Université Laval in Québec.”

Over the last few years, Alain has logged some very impressive times in both the 100m and the 60m, as well as the long jump. For him, age is just a number, and you’re never too old to get active.

“I am always motivated to go training, because it keeps me in shape for my every day work on the road. Sport is not only for children or young adults, it’s for everyone who wants to stay in shape and healthy.”

Rather than being complacent with a provincial record in the 60-metre sprint, Alain is back in action this Saturday (26^th), once again competing in the 60-metre event, and in the long jump at the National Master’s Championship in St. John, New Brunswick.
