Christmas Day has come and gone for another year. Millions of people around the world came together to eat, drink and be merry. Unfortunately, though, the same thing can’t be said for millions of other families, for who the holiday season is a stressful period.
In recent years, consumerism has hijacked the season of giving, and it has effectively turned into the season of receiving. With spending on presents sky-rocketing, it’s important to think of those less fortunate, who might not have had a warm dinner, never mind unwrapping the newest console.
Today is the 29th of December, and across every continent, you can guarantee people will be throwing out unwanted presents, leftovers from huge meals and spending huge sums of money in the pub.
Rather than waste a perfectly good gift, perfectly good food or splashing the cash on drink, why not consider giving to those who may not have had the same holiday season as you and your family?
The pandemic forced many charity shops to close during periods of lockdown over the last almost two years, and with fundraising events being cancelled, they have struggled to stay afloat.
Now is your chance to recycle, reuse and donate unwanted Christmas presents so that someone else can enjoy them even if you don’t.
There are dozens of charities that would happily take your donation, but here are four that are close to our four locations for you to consider should you be able to donate this holiday season:
- Vancouver – Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau
- Calgary – The Magic of Christmas
- Mississauga – Peel Children’s Aid Foundation’s Holiday Wishes Program
- Redmond – Toys For Tots
