 SanMar Canada’s Holiday Playlist

It’s the season of giving and The Social Committee has a present for you.

SanMar Canada’s Holiday Playlist is here and we’re excited for you to get listening to your favourites.

Whether you’re in the mood for some of Mariah Carey’s highest notes, Band Aid’s VIP line-up, or if Spanish/Christmas pop is more you’re thing, we’ve covered all bases.

We asked you to submit the songs you love to hear when you’re putting up your tree, drinking your hot chocolate by the fire or when you’re out buying presents and hear it over the speakers in the mall.

Now that the playlist is ready for playing, it’s fair to say it covers all bases with a mixture of festive rock, pop, carols and some classics that you may not have heard of in quite some time.

Here are five fun facts about some of the songs included:

  • On Christmas Day 2018, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” broke Spotify’s single-day record with 10.82 million plays, and the following year, it hit more than 12 million.
  • Brenda Lee recorder the original version of “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” when she was only 13 years old.
  • Wham released “Last Christmas” the same year as Band Aid’s “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”, so they decided to donate all proceeds of the song to the same Ethiopian famine appeal.
  • Shane MacGowan and Kirsty MacColl’s parts on The Pogues’ “Fairytale Of New York” were recorded separately – the pair never sang the song together in the studio.
  • While Wizzard were recording “I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday”, engineer Steve Brown turned the air conditioning down to its coldest setting to set the atmosphere.

The Social Committee hopes you enjoy these festive favourites, have a fantastic break over the holidays and of course, a Happy New Year!
