The Importance Of Hand Sanitizer This Winter

Over the last twenty months, our lives have changed dramatically. The pandemic has seen the likes of social distancing and quarantining become common place in society, and hand sanitizer has too.

Before the World Health Organization declared the outbreak of Covid-19 as a pandemic, people would sanitize their hands every now and again, but that has changed, and hand sanitizing is here to stay.

To prevent the spread of germs, health authorities recommend washing hands with soap and water whenever possible because it reduces the amount of many types of germs and chemicals on hands.

If soap and water are not readily available, using a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol can help you avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others.

It’s probably second nature to everyone at this stage, but it’s good to refresh the memory and remember how to use hand sanitizer effectively:

  • Rub the gel over all the surfaces of your hands and fingers until your hands are dry.
  • Keep alcohol-based hand sanitizer out of your eyes.
  • Store alcohol-based hand sanitizer out of reach and sight of young children.
  • Supervise young children when they use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

In case you missed it, Health Canada issued a recall for four hand sanitizer products over possible health risks around a month ago. The affected products include:

  • CN Pharma 80% Ethanol Hand Sanitizing Spray
  • Hand Sanitizer by CN Pharma
  • ShieldPlex
  • Alcohol Antiseptic 80% (v/v) Topical Solution Hand Sanitizer
