Dublin, Ireland was the first stop in our Random Acts of Kindness series last week, but this time we’re in Kelowna, BC, with a woman who is spreading kindness on the streets.
Last year, Crystal Flaman created a movement called “10 Million Acts of Kindness” and officially kicked it off at a coffee shop in the city. She and some of her friends gave hundreds of dollars to a barista and bought her a bicycle for her commute to and from work.
She hopes that one million people will commit to doing ten random acts of kindness, which will hit the target of ten million.
Crystal was back on the streets of Kelowna again, continuing her efforts to make the world a kinder place. Last Monday, she decided to hand out flowers to strangers and put kind notes on people’s cars.
To help spread her message, she has launched a new website where people can get ideas on the variety of ways to be kind. Through that website, she’s also raising money to help support the Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs.
In this day and age, many of us are caught up in our own lives, forgetting that the simplest of things can make the most significant impact on someone else. A random act of kindness doesn’t have to be anything extravagant. Something as simple as a smile towards someone on the street could make a tough day for them a lot better.
If you turn on the news or are scrolling through your social media timelines, unfortunately a lot of what you’ll see is doom and gloom. With our Random Acts of Kindness series, we want you to share what you, a family member, a friend or a colleague has done for someone else. It doesn’t have to be someone you know either – it can be anyone or anything who has shared their kindness with the world.
