Calgary celebrated Vaisakhi

The Calgary Team celebrated Vaisakhi with food and good company this past Friday April 12th.

Also known as (Baisakhi, Vaishakhi, or Vasakhi,) Vaisakhi is a historical and religious festival in Sikhism culture. Vaisakhi originated as a harvest festival, but is so much more than that. It serves as a reminder to the Sikh community of the creation of the Khalsa order which promotes justice and equality for the creation of a more equal and just society, commits to wearing the five articles of faith and practices daily meditation. It also allows individuals access to their Sikh spiritual guide.

This tradition dates back 300+ years and is the most important date on the Sikh religious calendar. This day is often celebrated with crowds gathering for large parades, music, traditional dancing and a unique element which pays tribute to the harvest celebration roots of the parade – attendees are given free food and drink from hundreds of local residents and businesses. It is a day of celebration.
